A new project at Bridgewater State University aims to promote the psychological well-being of female veterans by guiding them through self-reflection and exploration of their family history. Victoria L. Bacon, professor of counselor education, said researchers are looking for 24 women who are psychologically well and can attend group sessions conducted by a licensed mental health counselor for eight weeks. The women will share their family histories through activities such as researching their genealogy, writing a memoir or poetry, collecting letters or images, or telling an oral history. Participants will complete a self-evaluation of well-being at the first and last group meetings. They will be compensated up to $132 for attending all eight sessions. The project is funded in part by an $8,023 grant from the Daughters of the American Revolution.
